STRAIN COLLECTION
The sequencing of microbial genomes predicts a much higher variety of microbial metabolites than previously assumed. This has recently lead researchers to focus on the potential exploitation of microbial genetic resources. Therefore, we have built and are continuously expanding our strain collection of fungi and bacteria. Most samples come from soil with also a significant collection of Candida species obtained from Austrian sources. Our approach searches and characterizes previously unknown bioactive compounds and enzymes from bacteria, fungi and other microorganisms. By mimicking natural conditions, biotic interactions between different organisms in different chemical and physical environments are possible. This promotes the production of specific metabolites.

ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT
High throughput cell lysis (MP96), various fermentation Chambers, Incubators (also CO2), 2 clean benches, 5 bench places, 4 fume hoods, -80 freezer, CLSM and other Microscopes, Rotavapor and more. The Labs are BSL2 certified.
